Nostalgia o Invierno en Bratislava

In these haughty and serene poems, distilled from pain and wonder, Michal Habaj imagines the moment when the end of the world and the origin of words coincide. If nostalgia is a country in the clouds over which it is possible to reconstruct what has happened and announce the future, Habaj is one of the best witnesses to what happened and what could happen. With a wisdom and style comparable to a hypnotic trance, the Slovak poet wonders how many November ago the age of humanity ended. Thanks to Lucia Duero’s translation, Habaj’s voice reaches us with transparency and a very fortunate complicity, which allow him to assure: “You will never be safe / from the poem / that was written for you”.
